Chimera specializes in project finance of long-term infrastructure, commercial, industrial and other large projects using a non-recourse or limited recourse financial structure. Our loans used to finance the project are paid back from the cash flow generated by the project. In some cases, equity and debt may also be utilized if there is a strategic fit between the project, sponsor and Chimera.

 

Our project financing loan structure relies primarily on the project's cash flow for repayment, with the project's assets, rights and interests held as secondary collateral. Project finance is especially attractive to the private sector because companies can fund major projects off balance sheet. 

The unique construction-to-permanent loan gives project owners more time and the ability for the project to become operational and profitable without the burden of the debt service. All interest reserves and closing costs are rolled into the loan so no payments are required during construction. Loans range from 10 to 30 years after the project is completed.

 

Though the underwriting process is as rigorous as any other, many projects are funded based on whether or not Chimera desires the relationship; it becomes not a question of if we can fund the project, but whether or not we want to be part of the particular project. Chimera places a high value on relationships, integrity, confidentiality, and professionalism.
